To start the summer semester, the Grand Rapids Community College Campus Activities Board is hosting a “Backyard BBQ” for the campus community.
CAB President Ruben Resendiz said the event is a great way to use their allotted money for the summer semester.
“We thought this would be a good time to throw an event for the summer students to enjoy,” Resendiz said.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 at the Dr. Juan R. Olivarez Student Plaza. CAB and Student Life will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, fresh fruit, potato salad and root beer floats. There will also be giveaways that include sunglasses and water bottles, yard games, a caricature artist and custom license plate dyeing.
The newly hired director of Student Life and Conduct Lina Blair is also expected to join.
Resendiz was hired as CAB president in March, and he said he is having a lot of fun so far.
“It’s still a little overwhelming and it still hasn’t really sunk in just yet,” Resendiz said. “It’s a lot of fun and I’m excited for the … rest of the year.”
Upcoming CAB events like Day at the Zoo and Fall Welcome Week are already in the works.
