This week’s list of things to do includes Heaters at the Pyramid Scheme, the movie “The Lobster” and “Sundance Select Shorts 2016” at the UICA and Eastown Bizarre Bazaar.
The Pyramid Scheme is presenting the bands Heaters, Heavier Than Air Flying Machines, Hollywood Makeout, and Seth Galligan at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Heaters are a Grand Rapids-based psych rock band signed to Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records. Heavier Than Air FLying Machines are post rock, also from Grand Rapids. Hollywood Makeout is surf/garage rock from Grand Rapids. Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 day of the show. Guests ages 21 and up are welcome.
The UICA is screening “The Lobster” at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and screening “Sundance Select Shorts 2016” at 8 p.m. Friday. “The Lobster” is an original take on the dystopian near future where single/unmarried people are sent to a hotel where they must either find a compatible mate or be turned into the animal of their choosing. The “Sundance Select Shorts 2016” is a selection of eight films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Tickets are $4 for UICA members and $8 for non members.
Eastown Bizarre Bazaar is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday. Wealthy Street between Atlas Avenue and Lake Drive will be closed to traffic and will instead be transformed into a showcase of local music, food and crafts. There will be live music by local bands such as The Cardboard Swords, Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish. The event is free.
