The Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team pulled out a convincing 3-0 sweep of The Jackson College Jets Thursday, extending their winning streak to seven.

GRCC was clicking on all cylinders right from the start. Everything seemed to go right, especially with their hitters.

“I think our hitters played well early on and the rest of the team did a great job on finding some consistency,” Head Coach Chip Will said. “We always talk about team wins and team wins mean everyone is playing well. Team wins can also mean helping your teammates out and I thought we did a pretty nice job.”

Will said they were better at minimizing errors than Jackson and that’s what led the win.

“I thought we were better physically, but they (Jackson College) obviously have two great hitters,”  Will said. “I think we can match up our three hitters every rotation with them. We made consistent plays and forced them to make errors. We did a better job of cutting our errors down and playing a little more consistent.”

From this impressive victory, the team showed that they have an arsenal of players that can step in and play well when the opportunity presents itself. The takeaway from this game is to keep the players fresh and confident about themselves.

“Really when it comes down to it, with all these matches, we want to give our kids more opportunities,” Will said. “We want to give our kids chances to play, so players can be fresh. Today we played a lot of different kids, so at the end of the day what matters is that all our kids feel good towards regional play.”

Playing as a team was the main focus for the players heading into the game.

“I think we all played very well,” Freshman Setter Lauren Helsen said. “It was overall a team win. Our defense was really good and our passing was very well. We did a great job on finishing the game.”

The next match will be the Raider Challenge Tournament on Oct.1 and 2, at the Ford Fieldhouse.
