For Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at Grand Rapids Community College, students are celebrating by going out to volunteer around the community.
From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 GRCC students have the opportunity to complete volunteer services hours in honor of Martin Luther King. Registration is already closed for this event.
“For the MLK day of service, students will be cleaning and preparing The Well House,” said Ruben Resendiz, president of Campus Activities Board.
CAB will be showing the movie “Selma” from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Raider Grille. Free popcorn will be served.
A commemoration program featuring activist and writer Kevin Powell speaking on “The Leadership Is Us” will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain Street NE. The event is sponsored by GRCC, Grand Valley State University and Davenport University.
