For the first time, GRCC is hosting the Young Women, Strong Leader’s Conference. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, March 24th in the Wisner-Botrall Applied Technology Center. This is a public event for anyone in college to participate in.
“The Michigan American Council on Education Network (MI-ACE) each year selects a new host site so that there is an opportunity to host the conference at various colleges and universities around the state,” Director of Communications, Leah Nixon said.
Nixon explained that host sites are chosen by their willingness to take on such an event, available space to accommodate guests from around the state, and the ability that a university would have to coordinate a committee to help plan this event.
“This conference is a wonderful opportunity for students to build leadership skills and hopefully consider getting involved on campus at GRCC and in the communities,” said Lina Blair, Director of Student Life and Conduct. Blair further explained how this conferences has the objective of getting younger women involved within their communities. “The goal is to try and help women engage in some career explorations and development for their future,” said Blair.
At this conference, students will have the opportunity to network with and hear from leaders in West Michigan as well as member’s of GRCC’s faculty and staff. “There will be three series of breakout sessions, a panel discussion, and a keynote presentation all focusing on career pathways, career development, and a practical skill development,” Blair stated.
The registration for this event is $25. A continental breakfast and lunch in included with the registration fee, as well as all the above stated amenities. For more information and to register for this special event, click here for more information.
