On June 19, Carlos Sanchez was appointed to fill the vacant seat on the Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees position.
Carlos Sanchez is the Director of the Latino Business and Economic Development Center at Ferris State University. Although these are his first two educational positions, he hopes to make a huge difference in the education community.
On June 8, ex- trustee Bert Bleke resigned and ended his term early which lead the school needed to find another trustee to take over his position.
“I decide to take the position when I heard it was available and I thought it would be a good opportunity to make an impact (on the) students of GRCC,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez studied at Davenport University where he received a degree in International business and the Donald W. Maine College of Business Alumni Award. He said his decision to work in higher education started with his mother, whose passion for teaching inspired him to help college students succeed. He aspires to encourage more Latino students into higher education.
“One thing I plan to do is to be a voice for the students and college, and also the staff.” Sanchez said.
Sanchez says that all of his experiences and having knowledge in business and higher education throughout his life will assist him while being a trustee at GRCC.
