At 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Grand Rapids Police Department officers were called to Richmond Park after a group of people snuck into the park pool. One of the men drowned.
Damon Smith-Phillips, 21, of Detroit, was a student at Grand Rapids Community College, according to his father (first reported by WOODTV 8).
When officers arrived, they quickly dove in and pulled Smith-Phillips out of the water and performed CPR. He was then taken to the hospital where he later died. An autopsy will be performed to reveal his official cause of death.
