Grand Rapids Community College Athletic Director Billy Firn has officially launched a new student organization that will be dedicated to changing the school’s atmosphere at sporting events and all school-related activities on campus.
“The Cavalry” organization is where all students at GRCC can come together at home games and form a student section to cheer on GRCC athletes.
Firn wants to make the in-game presence here at the college more difficult for opposing teams to play in and also to voice their support for the student athletes in competition.
The overall purpose for this organization is to raise the amount of support for student athletes as well as for other students participating in activities here at GRCC including theater performances, culinary events and volunteer opportunities in the community.
“The Cavalry” has a Twitter page where you can keep up with the latest on-campus activities, sporting events, and anything else that’s happening at GRCC.
You can follow their page here.
“The Cavalry” will make its first appearance of the season at the women’s volleyball cancer awareness game on Thursday, Sep. 21, in the Ford Fieldhouse. Prior to the start of the game, students should report to the Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. to receive their Cavalry t-shirt and free pizza from Papa John’s. All students who are interested in joining the organization can sign up at the Fieldhouse or contact Firn at email@example.com.
