The Grand Rapids Community College Psychology Department will be holding their next lecture in the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The speaker is Dr. Jeff Nevid, Director of Clinical Psychology and Professor at St. John’s University in New York.
The topic of the discussion is the automatic, unconscious mind, and the quirks that it often creates. Nevid will discuss unconscious biases that shape our behavior, including the factors that shape our sexual arousal, choice of computer, or how we spend our money. Nevid’s speech will present research that gives a fresh perspective on the “autopilot” mode our brains so often enter, and how understanding it can help us make informed decisions.
The Psychology Department speech series is free and open to the public, and all lectures are held in the auditorium in room 168 of the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center.
The next speech is scheduled for March 22, and will be held by Central Michigan University’s professor, Dr. Bryan Gibson.
