I know you all have desperately missed me, so I’m back to give you your weekly fill of drama and celebrities. I know, I’m a saint. You’re welcome.
The Met Gala
If you’re like me, you look forward to the Met Gala every year because of the insane fashion and, ya know, Queen Rihanna. All of that is wonderful, but I never knew what the Met Gala was actually for (yikes). It’s actually a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. So not only is it the fashion event of the year, it’s actually for a good cause, too. It also signifies the beginning of the highly anticipated grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition with this years theme being: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” opening today.
The theme for this year’s gala was “Heavenly Bodies,” which was inspired by donations from the Vatican to the museum. As usual, the night’s biggest stars went all out with their fashion choices.
Rihanna, who is actually a co-chair of the gala, has always owned the fashion of the Met Gala for as long as I can remember, and her outfit is always the most anticipated of the night. She was the first to arrive this year, adorned in a white beaded Margiela corset mini dress under a full skirt with a beaded bishop’s hat to top off the ensemble. The outfit was accessorized with a pearl anklet and a bejeweled crucifix necklace.
Overall, she slayed the game.
Another celebrity on the best dressed list is Blake Lively, who wore a beautiful gold headpiece that matched her Versace golden and blood red gown. The bodice had so much detail and beading, it allegedly took over 600 hours to make. There is also a rumor her dress was so big she had to arrive in a party bus. Wowza.
Lively arrived solo to the Gala but her custom-made Judith Leiber rhinestone clutch showcased her husband, Ryan Reynolds, family crest with the letters “B” “R” “J” and “I”.Standing for Blake, Ryan, and their two kids, James and Ines. Always gotta represent the squad.
One of the men being praised for best dressed was Chadwick Boseman, aka Black Panther. He came adorned in an all-white suit with golden cross embellishments and a cape. Swoon.
One starlet who was not being praised for her look was fashionista Selena Gomez. Gomez was torn apart on the world wide web for her spray tan gone awry and curly bangs. Although, her Coach dress almost makes up for her tanning faux pas. Gomez even posted on her Instagram a video of her running away with the caption:
“Me when I saw my pictures from the MET 🤷🏽♀️”
Oh well. There’s always next year.
No, that is not a typo.
The Backstreet Boys apparently have a cruise? I don’t know how I didn’t know this until recently because it’s probably the most important information in the universe. Anyways, on their cruise they decided to spice up (wink wink) their usual performance by dressing up as the Spice Girls!
Nick Carter was “Baby Spice,” Kevin Richardson was “Posh,” AJ McLean was “Scary,” Brian Littrell was “Sporty” and Howie Dorough was “Ginger.” Iconic.
They posted a group photo of them on the boy band’s Instagram with the caption:
“Celebrating all of the girl power that’s kept us going for 25 years.”
So cute, so sweet, so Backstreet Boys.
To keep the 90’s nostalgia going, the actual Spice Girls have a reunion in the works! On Tuesday, Mel B confirmed on the talk show Loose Women that the girls have something in the works.
“We are in the works of figuring the stuff out… I don’t want to say too much. All five of us have signed with Simon Fuller. I can’t say exactly what and when, but it’s all very exciting,” Scary Spice confirmed. “It’s going to be a bit of everything. If it was up to me we’d go on tour immediately. Maybe we will soon… hopefully.”
Since I missed the Backstreet Boys cruise, I will NOT be missing the Spice Girls reunion.
Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” tour kicks off.
And boy did it ssssizzle. Just a little snake joke for ya, because Swift has truly embraced the snake theme that Kim Kardashian bestowed upon her.
On Tuesday evening, Swift appeared on stage for the first time in, what feels like years, to start off her “Reputation” tour in front of a record breaking 59,000 people all crammed into the University of Phoenix behemoth dome stadium.
Swift took the opportunity of being in front of so many people to talk about her snake covered stage and why she embraced the symbol.
“You might be wondering why there are so many snakes everywhere,” Swift said during her opening.Well, um, duh. “The reason is a couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on.” Yes she is talking about the Kim K. feud.
“I went through some really low times because of it,” Swift continued. “If someone is using name calling to bully you on social media — and even if a lot of people jump on board with it — it doesn’t have to defeat you. It can strengthen you instead.”
Honestly, that even warmed my cold dead heart.
All right guys, that wraps things up for me this week. I’ll see you next week for more tea. Let me know what you think about all this in the comments. Ttyl.
