Grand Rapids Community College sophomore Zachary Lutes competed Sunday in the final round of the Opera Grand Rapids Collegiate Vocal Competition against other college students from the West Michigan area. While he did not place, Lutes is happy to have made it far as he did.
“I was glad to size myself up against other collegiate students and see how I’m progressing with my studies,” Lutes said. “And I’m grateful for the judges’ criticism and comments to provide a better understanding of where I am currently.”
Lutes plans on continuing his studies and participating in the competition next year.
Western Michigan University student Chelsea Helm won first place and a $500 cash prize in Division I, Grand Valley State University student Andrea Fleming took second place and $375, and Hope College student Jenna Buck took third place and $250.
WMU student Alicia Renney won first place and a $100 cast prize in Division II.
