Last week during Opening Day activities, Grand Rapids Community College presented it’s three Excellence Awards for 2013.
This year, the GRCC Excellence in Education Faculty Award went to Professor of Psychology Judy Jankowski, professor of psychology and GRCC faculty member since 1986.
“This faculty member is at every departmental meeting, working on every initiative, and providing her best effort,” Ender said.

Jankowski was unable to be at the Opening Day Meeting, but spoke briefly to the crowd at the Opening Day faculty meeting through a video that was recorded during a surprise presentation on Monday.
“I couldn’t have done it without all the support … of all the people that surround me,” Jankowski said.
The Excellence in Education Staff Award went to Nancy Guigue, an Educational Support Professional with the School of Workforce Development at GRCC since 1992.
“I work with awesome people, and that’s what makes the job easy,” she said after receiving the award at the Opening Day meeting.

Cheryl Kautz won the Excellence in Education by Adjunct Faculty Award. Kautz has taught at GRCC since 2007, in the computer sciences department. She’s worked with GRCC faculty to help create more accessible courses for those with disabilities. In the last two years, Kautz has also won three Blackboard Catalyst awards for her work within GRCC’s Blackboard system.
