Downed power line causes outages in several buildings

This morning at about 9 a.m. Grand Rapids Community College officials were alerted to a downed power line on Ransom Avenue, the street between the library and Bostwick parking ramp.

The Student Center, Ford Fieldhouse, Calkins Science Center and the Applied Technology Center were all left without power this morning until about 11 a.m. The downed line did not cause the outages, Consumers Power shut off the electricity to allow workers to repair the damaged line.

“We would like to remind our students to stay away from downed power lines and call campus police immediately,” GRCC Police Chief Rebecca Whitman said in a news release prepared by GRCC.

The cause of the downed power line has yet to be determined.

    • You’re right! I called over there and they let me know they had power the whole time. Now I’m curious about the Music Center’s status.
