Blown glass and steel
Venue: Grand Rapids Art Museum
Name: Jason Gamrath
City: Seattle, Washington
What was his inspiration?
His art was made for a specific person in his life. He loves science and realism, and therefore exaggerates detail in his work. His whole series was supposed to represent an emotion that he could not express in words.
How long did it take to create his entry?
What was the most challenging part?
The glass work, as 50% of the glass work is lost. It will crack, the color will be lost, or it will melt. Another difficult part was transporting everything from Seattle.
How are people responding to his artwork?
Some people cry, some people give him a hug, some scream, some walk by and don’t even notice his art, so it is quite a large range of emotions. He likes that he does not need to speak for it and that people pick up on the emotion for it themselves.
What would he do with the money if he won?
He would pour everything back into making more art.
