The Grand Rapids Community College Golf team took second place on Friday at the Jackson Community College Invite.
GRCC finished with an overall score of 311. The second place finish didn’t sit well with the team. GRCC’s Jared Multer was quick to point out that it was their worst score as a team this fall, also noting that weather did play a factor. Coach Bruce Vandenbeldt was also not very pleased with the overall performance. “Unfortunately, it was not a great day,” he said.
Sophomore Multer, led the Raiders with a score of 75. Fellow sophomore, David Thompson was right behind him with a 76. Freshman, Logan Sochacki shot a 79 and Zach Bialik with an 81. Though, it was not a great round on the course, the GRCC golfers know what they’re really capable of. “Our team has proved this fall that we can shoot low scores, such as the many scores in the 290’s and a 289 last weekend,” Multer said.
“Although, it was a high team score yesterday, I think we will be ready to bounce back very quickly,” Multer said.
GRCC’s golf team will finish up their season, Tuesday in the Koehler Collegiate Classic in Koehler, Wis at one of the more prestigious Golf Courses around in Whistling Straits Golf Course. GRCC will be the only community college in attendance. “It’s quite a privilege to play here,” Vandenbeldt said.
The GRCC Golf team not only wants to end the fall season on a good note, but they’re also out to prove a point. “We want to prove that we can play with the other competition,” Vandenbeldt said.
