The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team crawled out of an early 4-20 deficit to beat the Ancilla College Chargers 74-62 Friday night.
GRCC trailed Ancilla 28-30 at halftime.
“I wasn’t comfortable until it was over,” said GRCC coach TJ Carnegie.
GRCC freshman C.J. Mackey, from Tarpon Springs, Fla., tallied a double-double. Mackey scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds. Sophomore Miles Robinson led the team with 24 points.
GRCC outscored Ancilla College 46-32 in the second half. At one point, Robinson scored eight consecutive points.
The Raiders only have a handful of games remaining.
“We have four tough games left and we are just trying to take them one at a time,” Carnegie said. “Hopefully we stay healthy and can finish strong.”
With a record of 15-7, GRCC seeks their fourth straight win today. The Raiders will go head to head with Jackson College at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center at Aquinas College.
