Founders Brewing is planning on training 85 new employees over the next six years through a partnership with Grand Rapids Community College, made possible through the Michigan New Jobs Training Program.

On Monday, GRCC’s board of trustees approved both that partnership and a $500,000 bond that will pay for the initial cost. Once the trainees begin work, their regular income tax will be diverted by the state of Michigan back to GRCC to repay the bond, with a 6-year period, according to Lisa Freiburger, GRCC’s director of finance.

The jobs created will include marketing, customer service, quality assurance, brewers and cellar operators. As part of the Michigan New Jobs agreement, each job will pay at least $12.75 an hour and include health care and retirement plans.

This is far from GRCC’s first Michigan New Jobs partnership.
