Instagrammers tune in: the 9th annual WorldWide InstaMeet is happening online and in Grand Rapids on Sunday. Organized by Instagram and held around the world May 17 and 18, #wwim9 connects Instagram fans with others in their area for a day of photo and video making.
Mark Wynsma (@Markinthewestvillage), a New York based photographer originally from Grand Rapids, has set up and organized the first Grand Rapids InstaMeet and is excited to turn Grand Rapids on to the “social” aspect of social networking.
“It’s a good way to get together and meet a bunch of people and share tips,” said Wynsma. “It’s taking social media and making it social.”
Wynsma sees a lot of potential in the way Grand Rapids uses its social media, although it’s not yet on par with what you’d find in New York City.
“I feel like people can learn to use Instagram to find out about things and promote them,” said Wynsma. “But I don’t think it’s something Grand Rapids has really caught on to yet.”
The InstaMeet is a chance to share what you know, and learn from other photographers and networkers. Wynsma will share tips and tricks on gaining your audience, improving your content, and using Instagram as a means to connect with others. He encourages anyone interested to join him at Rowster Coffee (632 Wealthy St SE) this Sunday at 1 p.m. From there he’ll lead the group around Eastown, along the river downtown and through shops.
