Einstein
Artist: Michael Feehan
Age: 62
Occupation: Artist
Hometown: Belmont, Michigan
Medium: Oil on canvas
What was your inspiration for the piece?
He started thinking of people that affected our lives in the last couple centuries. After seeing the character in Einstein’s face, Feehan knew Einstein was right for this year’s entry.
How long did it take to create?
He painted over the span of three months. Due to the nature of oil paintings, Feehan was forced to wait three days in-between layers as they dried. Each session was about three or four hours.
What were some challenges?
“His hair and trying to get that expression that I couldn’t find in a photograph,” Michael Feehan said.
How are people reacting?
“I’m getting a tremendous amount of reactions, and it’s all real fun. From people who just walk by and crack a smile all the way to the people who are really fascinated with the equations in his hair,” said Feehan.
What will you do with the money if you win?
He would donate some to Artists Creating Together, a local non-profit organization for disabled children, as well as donate some back to ArtPrize.
