The Grand Rapids Community College golf team swung their way to a first place finish at the Ancilla College Fall Invitational in Plymouth, Indiana on Friday. The Raiders shot a 304 (+16), beating out Muskegon Community College, Ancilla College, and Jackson College.

“Sophomores drive the boat and the freshman waterski,” Head Coach Bruce VandenBeldt said about team leadership.

GRCC Sophomore Zach Bialik led both the team and the competition with a +1. Sophomore teammate Kurt Sprague came in second, shooting a +2.

The Raiders are scheduled to tee off at the Lawerence Tech Invite at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 22. The 36-hole tournament will take place at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield, Michigan.

“We always go in expecting to win,” said VandenBeldt concerning the upcoming invite. “We just want to go in and get better.”
