Jackson, MI- The Grand Rapids Community College Raiders volleyball team beat host Jackson College 3-0 (25-21, 27-21, 25-17) Tuesday night.

Finding it hard to get into an offensive rhythm, GRCC had large deficits to overcome early on in the first two sets.

“It’s frustrating but for us we use it as a silver lining to work through when we are playing bad.,” Coach Chip Will said. ” I think there’s value to learning when things aren’t going well. What can you do differently to change the momentum ?”

Jackson took leads of 6-0 and 7-0 in the first two sets before GRCC’s defense took over, staging a comeback that allowed GRCC to win the match in three straight sets.

“It was a lost opportunity for us” said Jackson College coach Leigh Ann Swihart. “They picked it up a little bit”.

Raiders defensive specialist Maddie Stankus, who led the team with 16 digs, said, “The energy was better towards the end”.

Shelby Ruffner and Micaela Deshetsky totaled eight kills each. Michelle Holland added 25 assists.

The Raiders will face Ancilla College on Thursday in Donaldson, Indiana, before playing Kellogg Community College at 6:30pm, Sept. 23at the Ford Fieldhouse.
