Following a chemical spill in a fifth floor classroom in the Calkins Science Building on the Grand Rapids Community College campus, all classes on the fifth floor for the rest of the day have been cancelled.

According to Leah Nixon, Director of Communications for GRCC, the situation is under control. Campus police are working with the Grand Rapids Fire Department and a third party hazardous response team to clean everything up.

Specific details of the spill have not been released, but the entire floor was evacuated.

“Three faculty members were transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure,” Nixon said. “No students were effected. All classes will be regularly scheduled tomorrow with no negative impact on students.”
