The No. 6 ranked Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team beat Kalamazoo Valley Community College 3-0 (25-23,25-16,25-17) on Thursday at the Ford Fieldhouse.
Struggling from the start and trailing in all three sets, GRCC found themselves playing tight and not being able to get into an offensive flow.
“We showed a resiliency even when we weren’t playing well,” GRCC coach Chip Will said. “We came through and did enough to get the win. Our defense really picked it up to help us get the win tonight”
Playing with only sophomores on the court, the young KVCC team took a 10-3 lead in the first set.
“We played well- better than we have most of the season.” KVCC Jennifer Builkema said, “We gave them a run for their money.”
Shelby Ruffner lead GRCC with 11 kills and eight blocks. Michelle Holland had 17 assists with Amanda Glaza adding 14 digs.
Maddie Stankus tallied three aces.
GRCC (18-3,9-0) will travel to conference-rival Muskegon Community College (15-12,8-1) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, before hosting Jackson College Thursday Oct, 9 at 6:30 P.M. at the Ford Fieldhouse.
