The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team defeated the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks 82-63 on Friday.
After getting off to an early lead, the Raiders never looked back. GRCC led 44-30 going into the half and added on to that lead by the end of the game.
“We’re playing my kind of basketball right now,” Head Coach David Selmon said. “So I’m very happy about that. It took me a while to figure out who can do what and now, you know I took the team halfway through and so right now we’re really finding out what we got.”
Raider sophomores Cameron Burhannon and Calvin Ward III both had double-doubles on the night. Burhannon led the team in points with 27, two of which came from a dunk off of an alley-oop assist from sophomore DeMarkus Stuckey.
The Raiders made 45 percent of their field goals and went 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
“This game proves that we can play with anybody,” Selmon said. “Muskegon was in first place earlier this week. We control our own destiny.”
Ward contributed 19 points and had a teamhigh 16 rebounds. Burhannon added 12 rebounds.
The 13-8 Raiders are scheduled to play next against Ancilla College today in Donaldson, Indiana. The last time these teams met, the Raiders won at home 78-64.
