With ArtPrize set to take over Grand Rapids later this month, there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved.
Each year, with hundreds of thousands of people headed to town to view works that are part of the largest art competition in the world, volunteers are needed to fill a variety of roles and the deadline to sign up is Tuesday.
Justin Smith, 33 of Georgetown Township, has volunteered for the last two years and is signed up again this year to help people from out of town. He has put in over 100 hours in his two years volunteering, some of which took place at the ArtPrize Hub.
“I know a lot about Grand Rapids and about ArtPrize and wanted to share that information with visitors,” Smith said. “It is the best event for showcasing Grand Rapids to visitors and also a lot of fun. It’s a great experience interacting with people who have never been here and are amazed at all of the ArtPrize venues and events.”
Anyone interested in signing up should click on this link and follow the instructions. After signing up, volunteers can pick and choose from a variety of opportunities.
“From HUB hospitality to education docents, wayfinding to events, there’s really something for everyone,” said Jaenelle Woods, ArtPrize Public Relations Manager. “Volunteers design their own experience, selecting the shifts and positions they’d like to fill, volunteering as much or as little of their time as they’d like.”
Registration ends Tuesday Sept. 15 and all volunteers need to attend a mandatory orientation sometime between Sept. 13 and 16.
