Most students at Grand Rapids Community College have daily interactions with their professors, primarily in the form of giving lectures. Sometimes though, students are given the opportunity to see instructors putting their knowledge into practice.
The Music Department at GRCC’s Faculty Recital will provide students the opportunity to see professors and instructors in a whole new light Friday evening, watching them perform music and showing why it is they do what they do.
Several recitals have been held in the past, but the faculty is trying to create an annual event. According to Brian Morris, director of guitar studies at GRCC and organizer of the event, recent recitals put on by Dr. Libor Ondras and St. Cecelia Music Center were a big hit and they wanted to keep the event going.
The recital will feature seven faculty members, playing a variety of instruments, in a mostly classical genre. The concert will feature the works of many famous composers including Bach, Arensky and Schubert.
Each year, GRCC faculty look forward to the recital.
“It is fun to have all of the faculty involved,” Morris said. “There’s some excitement about all of us (faculty) getting together and doing this collaboration. Last year we were all pretty inspired.”
GRCC’s Faculty Recital will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the St. Cecelia Music Center. The event is open to the public. The cost is $3 for GRCC students and $5 for general admission.
