Entries for the Advance Newspapers’ 25th Annual Incredible Edibles recipe contest will be accepted with post-marks either via snail mail or e-mail by midnight today, Friday Jan. 29.
According to Patricia Pike, Campaign Coordinator at Advance Newspapers/MLive Media Group, “judges read through hundreds of entries, choosing unique recipes but with common ingredients so entries are of interest to a greater audience.”
Twenty-four finalists will prepare their recipes in two separate cook-off sessions at the Grand Rapids Community College Secchia Institute kitchen on Feb. 20.
Local chef Tommy Fitzgerald, Secchia Institute for Culinary Education Adjunct Instructor Kymberli Flanagan, MLive reporter Jeffrey Cunningham, and Advance Newspaper Recipe Columnists Cheryl Vale and Paul Matthews round out the list of food judges.
“We have people who know their food and presentation as judges,” Pike said.
The grand prize winner takes home a $1,000 gift card from Broene’s Furniture in Allendale. Eight first place contestants will receive $100 gift cards from various local retailers in each of these categories: 1) Appetizers 2) Breads, Muffins & More 3) Salads, Soups & Stews 4) Breakfast & Brunch 5) Main Dishes 6) Simple & Quick 7) Vegetables & Side Dishes 8) Cakes, Pies, Cookies & More.
