The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team defeated the Jackson College Jets 90-79 on Wednesday.
“I really thought it was gonna come down to one or two possessions just the way the game was going,” said Head Coach Mike Spicer. “Once we got into the bonus, we finally started taking advantage of that. We started to make some free throws.”
It was a close game all the way up until the fourth quarter when the Raiders decided to take the game away.
“We wanted to get good momentum going into the next game Saturday.” said freshman Claude Finley.
The Raiders had a certain game plan for the matchup and in the end it wound up working to their advantage.
“We wanted to make them beat us from the outside,” Spicer said. “Our game plan was to make them a perimeter team and we wanted to try to keep them out of the paint and away from the basket as much as possible.”
Jackson College would finish the game shooting 5 for 22 from 3-point range, only 23 percent, proving that the GRCC Raiders were able to successfully implement their game plan.
“We had a couple of bad games, so we just wanted to bounce back and have a great game for the team and win for the home crowd,” said sophomore Abdul McGraw.
