The industrial sewing and logistics certification programs at Grand Rapids Community College are now reaping the financial benefits of the college’s second grant from JP Morgan, this time for $45,000.

“(The funding) will help us build a certification curriculum for logistics and training folks in logistical-type work,” said Bill Pink, dean of workforce development at GRCC. “We are hearing more and more from our industry partners that that is a growing need.”

A career in logistics can range from many different jobs, with a focus in the area of supply chain management.

Pink said the programs are relevant and meet both the needs of students and the demands from employers in the field. Industry partners in the field of logistics will be “at the table” working with GRCC to develop this program.

“These things are going to be industry and expert informed,” Pink said. “Not only are we developing certificates and certification training for our students but it is relevant to them and the work that they will do once they finish.”
