Raiders fall short to KVCC in home season finale 74-66

By Dawan Brown – Collegiate Staff

The Raiders of Grand Rapids Community College lost to Kalamazoo Valley Community College 74-66 on Friday.

GRCC did not let the game slip away early.

The Cougars went on a run early in the first half but the Raiders came storming back with team play and good defense in the second half, while not showing any signs of  quitting.

Raider Freshman Claude Finley though the  team’s effort was better than in game’s past

“I feel like the team as a whole gave a better effort in spots during the game, but we just seem not to be able to get over the hump,” Finley said. “I was really hoping to get a win for the sophomores on Sophomore Night but we just came up short.”

Finley, a forward, led the Raiders with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort. Guard Myles Ervin also tallied 14 points and four rebounds.

KVCC had its hands full at times during the game when the Raiders had them on their heels, but the Cougars held on in the end. KVCC was led by Jalen Lamar’s 19 points and nine rebounds. Jeremy Williamson also had 19 points for the Cougars.

GRCC will go on the road for its final game of the season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against Kellogg Community College.
