Beginning next month, students at Grand Rapids Community College can apply for four open positions in Student Alliance, a student government organization at GRCC.
An application will be posted on OrgSync March 1, according to Student Alliance Adviser Evan Macklin. Students will have until March 15 to apply, and officers will be picked in April.
“You get to take action on your student experience,” Macklin said about being in a student leadership role on campus.
All positions in Student Alliance are for a one-year term, and the applicant must be a GRCC student enrolled in at least six credits for each semester.
Macklin said being a leader on campus helps students build a professional network.
Student Alliance leaders are required to work a minimum of five hours a week and the job is compensated, with the president making $2,000 a semester and the other three executive positions making $1,000 a semester.
“It’s just one of those other leadership capacity roles you can take on to go above and beyond what the average student would do,” Evan said. “It’s a nice way to build connections with other students, to be able to make a positive impact (on campus).”
