Jennifer Boylan to speak in Lecture series tomorrow, March 16

Critically acclaimed activist, novelist and professor Jennifer Finney Boylan will speak at the Fountain Street Church as part of Grand Rapids Community College’s Diversity Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16.

The lecture is titled “Stuck in the Middle With You: Parenthood in Three Genders,” and the focus is on Boylan’s memoir of the same name. “Stuck in the Middle With You” is one of the first best-selling works by a transgender American. Her memoir “She’s Not There: a Life in Two Genders” is the first best-selling book written by a transgender person.

Boylan is an activist for the LGBT community, particularly transgender men and women. She is on the Board of Directors for GLAAD and the Board of Trustees for the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender and Reproduction. Boylan is author to 13 books, a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times and Special Advisor to the President of Colby College in Maine.

Boylan is a known civil rights activist and has appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Live With Larry King,” the “Today Show,” the “Barbara Walters Special,” NPR’s “Marketplace” and “Talk of the Nation.” She has also been the subject of documentaries on CBS News’ “48 Hours” and “The History Channel.”

Boylan is a consultant and cast member for “I am Cait,” the series about Caitlyn Jenner on the E! Network and previously served as a consultant for the Amazon series “Transparent.”
