Grand Rapids Community College brought home 22 awards from the Michigan Community College Press Association’s annual banquet held April 9 at Central Michigan University.
The Collegiate newspaper won first place for General Excellence and Editor-in-Chief Kayla Tucker brought home first place for Student Journalist of the Year.
The Collegiate Staff also took home first place for In-Depth Reporting with the magazine project about Hospice of Michigan, second place for Outstanding Online Newspaper and third place for outstanding overall newspaper design. The Collegiate Staff also took home first and second place for outstanding editorial and first place for outstanding photo essay for ArtPrize 2015 coverage.
Editor-in-Chief Kayla Tucker won second place for In-Depth Reporting.
Staffer Dawan Brown brought home an honorable mention for Sports Feature Story.
Staffer Andy McDonald took second place for a Sports Feature story and honorable mention for his Sports Column.
Photo Editor John Rothwell brought home a total of five awards, including:
Honorable mention for Headline Writing, first and second place for Sports News Photo, first place for Personality Profile and first place for Sports News Story.
Web Editor Chris Powers took first place for Information Graphic or Illustration for his “Decision 2016 Election Guide.”
Sports Editor Zach Watkins took first place in the Sports Column and second place for News Story.
