GRCC to educate students on sexual assault awareness

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, students at Grand Rapids Community College will have the chance to learn more about sexual assault from GRCC’s Student Life Graduate Assistant for Campus Engagement Kaylee Wolff.

Wolff will be manning a table from 10 a.m.-2 p.m next Wednesday, April 13, at the same time. There are free bracelets, cups, key chains, pamphlets and more. Anyone who stops by the table is encouraged to sign the Red Flag Campaign flag to say that they will alert someone if they see any acts of sexual assault.

“Spreading awareness about sexual assault is extremely important to not only break down misconceptions about what a sexual assault survivor looks like but also to provide resources to students,” Wolff said. “The Red Flag Campaign itself is more of an active bystander intervention programming, so to have this (flag) is also saying, if you see something, say something.”

Students can report sexual assaults that occur on or off campus to any GRCC staff member, DeVries or Campus Police at 234-4010.
