At approximately 2:47 a.m. officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department were called to Grand Rapids Community College, after a witness reported seeing a man dragging a body between the Main Building and the Bostwick Parking Ramp.

According to the Grand Rapids Police news release, officers arrived on campus and found a body of a woman between the age of 30 and 40 years old near the bushes at 143 Bostwick Ave. NE.  A K-9 search was conducted but was unsuccessful.

“We have no reason to believe this has anything to do with our campus other than the location,” said GRCC Police Chief Rebecca Whitman, who confirmed that the victim was not a GRCC student.

A GRCC alert sent out at 6:07 a.m. stated: “(Grand Rapids) Police (Department is) currently investigating apparent homicide near 143 Bostwick. Does not appear individual is connected to GRCC.”

Whitman reiterated that campus is closed and students are asked not to be on campus when it is not open.

The suspect was described as a 6 foot tall black male, with short or no hair, age 20 to 30 years old. He was seen fleeing the area on foot in a white shirt and dark pants in a northern direction.
