At 5:19 p.m. April 4, a Grand Rapids Community College police officer was dispatched to the Ford Fieldhouse building in reference to an injured student. The student had a bag of ice on his left knee. The officer asked the student what happened to him and the student explained that when he was running sprints in the gym, he turned to run in the opposite direction, and when he did, he felt something pop in his left knee. He then fell to the floor and told his GRCC instructor he was in severe pain. The officer checked the student’s knee and noticed it was very swollen. The student said to the officer he did not want to be seen by any medical personnel and said he would seek medical attention on his own.

At 1:28 p.m. March 31, a nonemergency medical incident was reported to the GRCC police department. The complainant was a chef instructor in room 106 of the Applied Technology Center, who said a student had struck her head on a table. Once at the scene, the police officer met with the student. The student explained she accidentally bumped her head while ducking under a table to retrieve something from her bag. She said she was okay, but embarrassed. Officer observed a two inch bump on her forehead over her left eye. She refused additional medical care or transport.

Damage to Property

At 6:17 a.m. April 5, a GRCC police officer was dispatched to the first floor of the Main Building in regard to a Damage to Property complaint. Dispatch advised the officer the electric elevator passenger call box was ripped from the east wall. Upon arrival, the officer met with the GRCC Main and Cook Academic Halls Building Manager who said the call box did not fall, but some type of force was used to knock the call box off the wall. The officer was unable to locate fingerprints. There are no surveillance cameras in that area. The building manager said he will request Elevator Services to hang the call box back into position. There are no suspects and no witnesses at this time.

Assist Another Dept.

At 9:50 a.m. March 31, a GRCC police officer was dispatched to assist the Grand Rapids Police Department with the location and retrieval of a GRCC student wanted on an outstanding warrant from GRPD. Dispatch informed the officer GRPD had attempted to make contact with the student and requested he come in to speak with them. However, the student was being uncooperative. At 10:01 a.m. the GRCC police officer located the student in the Calkins Science building, room 435. The student was placed into custody, secured in handcuffs and escorted back to the GRCC police department. While enroute, the officer encountered two GRPD officers and they agreed to take custody of the student. The GRCC police officer then turned the student over to GRPD and closed the case.
