The new incoming president for the Grand Rapids Community College Student Alliance was announced at yesterday’s board of trustees meeting.
Originally from California, Jose Garcia, 26, has been a student at GRCC since 2011. Now, he is a math tutor and full-time student and wants to major in mathematics. He plans to transfer to Grand Valley State University this fall, and will take classes at both GVSU and GRCC to finish his transfer credits.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity that was given to me,” Garcia said. “I really look forward to meeting new people, making connections, so that I can make a difference in our community college.”
Garcia said he hopes to continue to display professionalism and diversity in Student Alliance.
The new Student Alliance officers will be introduced and sworn in at their April 21 meeting and succession ceremony. The meeting takes place from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, 2nd floor of the Student Center.
The new team will begin May 2.
