Tomorrow Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will tour Grand Rapids Community College’s Tassel M-TEC to see how students are being educated on skilled trades.
These trades include a variety of programs ranging from construction and manufacturing to nursing and culinary. During tomorrow’s tour, the governor will see construction camps taking place on campus for grades sixth through ninth, as well as GRCC students studying various trades.
GRCC’s Director of Workforce Training Julie Parks said she’s glad the governor is supporting young students in these more hands-on, nontraditional careers.
“The easy job at camp is to get the kids excited about it and sometimes our challenge is to get parents on board,” Parks said.
Parks said the governor will be able to see the projects the students are working on and will have the opportunity to interact with them and their professors.
