A week before the fall semester begins at Grand Rapids Community College, Athletic Director Orletta Caldwell has stepped down.
Caldwell resigned yesterday, Aug. 22, and stated in an email she will be retaining her role as a business professor at the college.
When asked about her resignation via email, she wrote: “Thank you but I just want to … end quietly. I tried.”
She declined further comment.
Associate Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Tina Hoxie, Caldwell’s direct supervisor, said she is “working on a plan to fill that position.”
Hoxie declined to comment on Caldwell’s resignation, a week before classes begin at the college.
“It’s a personnel issue,” Hoxie said. “I’m not going to comment on her decision in terms of resignation.”
Caldwell became athletic director in the summer of 2015.
