As summer construction comes to a close and classes begin, the Grand Rapids Community College campus police are advising students to be strategic when parking this week.

“Leave early,” said GRCC Police Chief Rebecca Whitman. “Be patient. Follow the directions of the officers.”

Campus police officers will be directing traffic the first two weeks of classes.

Whitman advised students to be aware of the smaller width of lanes, with the absence of the left lane, at the corner of Lyon Street and Ransom Avenue.

There is also no left turn in or out of the Lyon Street parking ramp. Whitman advises students to pull in from Michigan Street and Crescent Avenue.

Whitman said a lot of the business in the parking lots the first couple days of school is because students are coming to pick up books and use student services.

“If you don’t have to be here … that might not be the best time to pick up books,” Whitman said, adding that students should come down during less congested times.

Whitman also suggested students consider the DASH parking lots, where they can park for $250 for both semesters and ride in on a Rapid bus.
