Grand Rapids Community College is hosting a blood drive today until 5 p.m.
“All types of blood are always welcomed for donation,” said Erin Seabrooks, team leader of Michigan Blood. “We’re always in need of O negative.”
GRCC Police Chief Rebecca Whitman has been giving blood since she was 18 years old.

“It’s important,” Whitman said. “People need it. (It) helps saves lives,”
The donation process typically takes around 45 minutes and all blood given through Michigan Blood stays in the state of Michigan.

“We get it to the hospital faster than our competitors because we are local, we don’t have to ship it across the country,” said Andranisha Buchanan, donor services team leader.
Joelle Williams likes to give blood because she is AB+. She was unhappy last time she tried to donate and was denied.
“I’m happy I can give blood this time,” Williams said.
People who show up to give blood or try to donate get a free medium one topping pizza redeemable at any Hungry Howies.
The Blood Drive is located in the Multi-Purpose Room behind the Quiet Cafe on the second floor of the Student Center. The drive runs from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. today.
