Affordable dining options available to GRCC students


With the addition of the Fountain Hill Brewery to the seven dining areas on campus, there are plenty of places to grab a bite and relax this semester.

Without stepping off campus students and staff can dine at the Quiet Cafe, Raider Grille, Winchester Alley,  the aforementioned brew pub, The Heritage and Art and Bevs. RaiderCards are accepted at all on campus restaurants.

The Fountain Hill Brewery will be open to students and the public on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. most weeks, see the full schedule here. Students of the Craft Brewing Program will be serving craft beers brewed on campus. There are currently six campus brewed beers on tap ranging in price from $4.50 to $6.

The Heritage Restaurant is an upscale dining experience staffed by GRCC students and requires a reservation. It’s located in the Applied Technology Center. The restaurant offers a freshly prepared three-course dinner for $34. With the selection including rabbit, chicken, and vegan/vegetarian options. Lunch is also available with options ranging from $5 to $13.

The Quiet Cafe, located on the second floor of the Student Center, offers a menu of hot beverages, muffins, paninis and more. Next door is the Raider Grille which serves burgers, soups, salads, stir fries, pizza and desserts. The Raider Grille is open Monday through Thursday during the fall semester from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Winchester Alley is located on the G2 level of the Main Building. There is a Subway, a variety of vending machines, and GRCC’s own Patatas Mexican Cafe featuring coffee, bagels, tacos, burritos and more with the $6 burrito being the most expensive offering.

There are also several options within walking distance of campus. At the corner of Fulton Street and Jefferson Avenue, is Gita Pita, a greek restaurant specializing in gyros, which has a 10 percent student discount. Also, Cvlt Pizza, 10 Jefferson Ave., which specializes in vegetarian and vegan pizzas.

A little further out is Menna’s Joint at 44 Ionia St. which offers grilled burritos stuffed with almost anything you could want, such as mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, french toast and more.

Stella’s Lounge is located at 53 Commerce Ave. and has a full menu of burgers and appetizers, and over 200 selections of whiskey.

Electric Hero, 125 Ottawa Ave., offers a wide selection of sandwiches, as well as lettuce wraps and soups. Jimmy John’s is located at 63 Monroe Center and offers a variety of cold cut subs which are ideal for grabbing a quick bite between classes.

And Z’s Bar and Restaurant at 168 Campau Promenade, also offers a full menu, including burgers, pizza, and a variety of craft brews.

Further from campus there is a Grand Coney at 809 Michigan St. which is open 24/7. The restaurant specializes in breakfast but offers a wide variety of dinner and lunch options as well.
