The Grand Rapids Community College men’s golf team defeated Trine University on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 196-221, at Egypt Valley golf course.

The team was confident they could come out with a victory seeing as they won at Trine’s home course back in September.

“We expected to win and they delivered today,” said Coach John Forton.

Sophomore Keegan Mulvey shot a 36 and freshman Phil Apol shot a 38.

“We got a win on the board and some of the players that haven’t been playing that well came on board to do well,” Forton said. “They performed today better than they did in the past.”

The team is preparing for their last tournament this weekend, Oct. 15-16, at Whistling Straights, which is the last tournament of the fall season.

“We need to improve on being more consistent,” Forton said. “Our top players need to consistently break 80 or even around the lower 70s to be competitive on the national level.”
