GRCC police investigate after man jumps off Bostwick Parking Ramp

The Grand Rapids Community College campus police responded to Juan R. Olivarez Student Plaza shortly before noon today where a man jumped off the top floor of the Bostwick Parking Ramp in what appears to be a suicide attempt.

“An individual may have jumped from the top of the Bostwick Parking Ramp,” said Leah Nixon, GRCC director of communications. “The individual was transported to Spectrum Health hospital.”

There were no further updates on condition according to Nixon.

Nixon said the man was not a current GRCC student. An email was sent out following the incident that stated the man was not an employee of the college either.

“There were witnesses,” Nixon said. “Campus police are interviewing those witnesses at this time.”

The Grand Rapids Police Department was also at the scene.

Nixon directed students to call the GRCC Counseling and Career Center anytime at 234-4130 if they need to speak with a counselor.
