Having trouble parking downtown? Did the meter just go over when you got there? Well, don’t let it ruin your day, because that ticket could score you a free meal thanks to this new restaurant in Downtown Grand Rapids.
Located on Monroe Avenue, Mazzo Cucina D’Italia just opened its doors last Tuesday.
With their unique special, customers who show their Grand Rapids parking tickets will receive a free margarita pizza. However, it’s important to note that the special is only redeemable on Tuesdays, and if your ticket has been issued within the last 10 days.
Renee White, one of the restaurant managers, said free pizza idea was inspired by the staff’s own parking trouble.
“With our team members here, parking is kind of an issue with training,” White said. “All of us have gotten a parking ticket I’m sure. So it’s been kind of a give back since we’ve been getting those tickets. It’s been a fun little incentive basically.”
Some may wonder if this special reward for violating city parking ordinances has raised concerns with city officials, but White said,
“No,I wonder how they will react to it. No one has said anything yet.”
The Mazzo offers other specials such as half off bottles of select wine on Mondays, and $2 shucks (oysters) on Thursdays.
“It’s a nice casual venue and atmosphere,” White said. “And our whole team is excited to be down here.”
Restaurant hours are Mon.-Thurs. from 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m., Fri. 11:00 a.m.-12:00 a.m., Saturdays dinner only from 4:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.. The restaurant is closed on Sundays seasonally.
