At Grand Rapids Community College, students have the ability to take some time and enjoy free access to the Ford Fieldhouse, the campus athletic facility.
Aside from access to the indoor track and weight room, students can also use their RaiderCards to swim in the GRCC pool. It’s located in the northeast corner of the building, and the easiest access would be through the three doors off of Ransom Street.
It’s open to students, staff, faculty, and GRCC retirees with a valid RaiderCard. GRCC’s Health Club members also have access to the pool which is included in their membership. Members of the public are also able to use the pool for $3 per visit and must be 18 years or older to use the pool.
“What I like about it is that GRCC provides affordable and convenient access to a pool for our students,” said Michael Boerman, Aquatics and Sports Information Coordinator. “It is a clean and safe place to go swimming and stay in shape. Our more regular swimmers are a great group of people to be around as well.”
The pool provides locker rooms, kick boards, pull buoys and fins for people who want to swim laps, and exercise equipment like aqua joggers and dumbbells are also available. And there are lifeguards on duty at all open swims.
The Ford Fieldhouse pool also hosts academic classes including, U.S. Masters Swimming, American Red Cross lifeguard training, Grand Rapids Fire Department training.
Open pool hours are Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
