Recent vehicle break-ins in Grand Rapids Area

GRCC Police Department. (Arielle Jackson/The Collegiate)

The Grand Rapids Community College Police Department sent out an email advising all students and faculty to take safety precautions when leaving their vehicles unattended either at school or in the general downtown area due to an increase in vehicle break-ins.

Here below are some tips to keep your vehicle safe.

1. Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle:

Items such as a wallet, a backpack, electronics, gym bags, spare change or a key can be stolen.

2. Lock all of your vehicle’s doors:

Individuals who are trying break into these vehicles try to see if a door handle is unlocked. If they see something of value they will possibly break-in. With most of the cases the vehicle’s door were found unlocked.

3. Do not forget to report suspicious behavior:

Call the GRCC police department at 234-4911 for issues that occur on campus, for off campus issues, call 911.

If anyone becomes a victim to these crimes, the GRCC police ask for a detailed description of the event including the clothing, gender, race and the direction the individual was traveling from.

Although there has not been any vehicle break-ins on campus, the GRCC police department  suggests that individuals take these precautions.
