The Hispanic Student Organization of Grand Rapids Community College welcomes those who wish to learn about Hispanic cultures and celebrate them.
The HSO sets out to create a family environment that fosters comfort and involvement from its members.
“Everyone would talk to me as if they knew me … It’s nice to have someone to speak Spanish with on campus” said Jocelyne Lopez, a recent addition to the HSO.
Some of the organizations events include volunteering opportunities, dances that raise funds for events such as the US Hispanic Leadership Institute, and various events related to celebrating Hispanic cultures. The HSO is planning a Cesar Chavez event, which will include a film screening, and is expected to take place in early April.
Those who are interested do not have to be of Hispanic origin to join the HSO. The Hispanic Student Organization is open to students of all races, physical appearances, status, language, color, etc.
The Hispanic Student Organization holds meetings every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the far side room of the Student Life building.
