The Grand Rapids Community College Library and Learning Commons will be hosting the “Fake News from a Journalist’s Perspective” panel discussion at 11:30 a.m. on Tues. April 10 on the second floor of the GRCC library.
This panel will feature West Michigan reporters including, Catherine Behrendt from WZZM-13, GRCC alumnus Clayton Cummins from WILX News-10, GRCC alumnus Justin Dawes from Grand Rapids Business Journal, Barton Deiters from Wood TV-8, Jim Harger from MLive and Shelley Irwin from WGVU.
GRCC adjunct Journalism professor and former MLive reporter, Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood, will be moderating the event, and audience members are invited to come and ask questions at the event that will also feature participation from The Collegiate staff.
“This event will give students and the general public a chance to hear directly from local journalists about how fake news is impacting mainstream media and learn how these reporters’ jobs have changed in this new media landscape,” said Ackerman-Haywood. “I’m very excited for my students to have the opportunity to meet industry professionals and hear them talk about the careers several of them aspire to.”
The panel event is open to the public and will be the last event in the Fake News series. The previous three events in this series have been recorded and can be found on the GRCCtv youtube channel.
