The Grand Rapids Football Club kicks off their season at 7:30 p.m. on Fri., May 4, when they face off in a Men’s Friendly match against the Livonia City Football Club at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.

This game will mark the start of the team’s fourth season in Grand Rapids. In just a few short seasons, the team has gained a solid following from Grand Rapids citizens hungry for professional soccer.

One big change this season will be in the stands. The team has partnered up with New Holland Brewing Company and will now sell beer at the games. This decision was a controversial one due to the team playing on Grand Rapids Public School property.

The team’s founder and owner, Matt Roberts, got the deal done with the school district by offering a financial kickback to the school district from the beer sales. In an interview with WOOD TV 8, Roberts details his plans and shares his optimism that this will be a great partnership and a profitable business move for both Grand Rapids Public Schools and the team.

The women’s team also starts this week as they’ll be taking on Midwest United Sat., May 5 at Grandville High School at 7 p.m.

GR Men’s Football Clubs first National Premier Soccer League home game is Sun, May 27 against the Milwaukee Torrent at 6 p.m. Tickets for both the men’s and women’s teams are available for all home games and can be purchased at the game or in advance at grandrapidsfc.com.
